Welcome to 2/3 ID

Welcome Back!

Dear Friends,

I hope that you had a wonderful summer vacation.  I would like to introduce myself to my incoming second graders and welcome back my third graders!  My name is Ms. Silvestro and this is my sixth year teaching 2/3 ID at Green Acres. I taught 3 years of Kindergarten in Guilford and 4 years of Kindergarten in North Haven for a total of 13 years.  I grew up in North Haven and attended Clintonville, the Middle School and the High School. I currently live in North Haven with my 9 year old daughter, Emersyn, who will be in 4th grade at Green Acres this year.  I have a Master’s Degree and Sixth Year in Elementary Education and my Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and Graphic Design from Southern Connecticut State University. For fun, I love working out and teaching Insanity and Kidsanity to adults and children. I also love to go to Disney, Aruba and the Bahamas, hike, zipline, compete in mud races such as the Rugged Maniac and the Warrior Dash. I love just about anything that requires me to be adventurous!

This year, the class consists of 12 second graders and 9 third graders.  When you come to class on August 28th, I will have a lot planned for you to do.  We will do many activities that will get you acquainted with each other and your classroom.  Please remember to bring in the list of books that you read for the Governor’s Reading Challenge.  Reading is extremely important in Room 14. I’m excited to hear about the books that you read this summer.  So open those books if you haven’t done so already! Also, if you completed the Governor’s Math Challenge, send that information back to me as well!

I am so thrilled to get this school year started.  What can you bring the first day of school? Yourself, ready to go, a book, a Nut-Free Healthy Snack and a bottle of water (a thermos with ice would be best as our classroom is HOT)!  Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before and eat a nice, healthy breakfast in the morning! All of your supplies will be waiting for you on Wednesday morning.

Parents: I will be sending home a letter or email to you the first week of school with our class schedule.  My main source of communication will be through email. Please fill out the attached form with the emails you would like to have on the class contact list along with your cell phone number(s). Also, please have your child fill out the questionnaire attached as well and send it back on the first day of school.

I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces!

Ms. Silvestro
